The Sledging pictures a life of the Bross family which got away from big-city tumult into desolated Bieszczady mountains, in order to try creating life conditions better and more suitable to their needs and beliefs than contemporary urban culture. The narrative of this project has both subtle and formally precise overtone – thanks to this The Sledging becomes an ascetic recording of the reality, evocatively unearthing magical and poetical character of everydayness. Pustoła’s cycle is a technically perfect, solid and modernistic example of documentary photography – it was awarded with 1st prize in Polish Press Photography Competition in 2001.
